In 1921, a team calling itself the "Old Caldeians" played a rugby match and the team consisted of some who were old boys and some who were not. From this beginning sprang both the Hoylake and Old Caldeians clubs, founded in 1922 and 1924 respectively.

A meeting was held on 2nd August 1922 at the White Café in Cook Street, Liverpool. Those present were:

F.P.Arthur, G.A.W.Simpson, V.R.Anderson, M.S.Barton, O.M.Evans, F.M.Caine, R.L.Roughton, L.C.Davies, H.Brown, J.D.Kemp, V.T.Parkinson, L.Duke, J.McGuirk, G.E.Nott, A.J.Lewers, D.G.Lewers, H.Hulme.

( Harold Brown, later Judge Harold Brown, was to become President in 1946 when the club activities were re-started after the end of the war, and served in that position until 1964. )

It was resolved :

That a Rugby Football Club be founded in the Hoylake district : the club be called

"Hoylake Rugby Football Club".

Principal officers and a committee were elected. The said committee to proceed with:

arrangements for the acquisition of a suitable ground.

the question of colours and submit three selections.

Jerseys to be ordered from Mr Jack Sharp. Cost not to exceed 10s-6d about 50p.
