Hoylake R.F.C.

Just a few words about Hoylake R.F.C. for those who are unfamiliar

with our GREAT little club.

We were founded in 1922, although the smart-arsed of you out there may have spotted a team photograph dated 1890.Despite exhaustive research through local press and Town Hall records no direct links can be found between the original Hoylake RFC and the current club apart from the fact that they both belong to Hoylake.

Since 1927 the club has been in residence at Melrose Avenue, albeit with some inevitable changes along the way including the erection of the existing clubhouse in place of the previous timber "shed". Ground improvements have also taken place to both first and second team pitches having underground drainage installed.

On the playing side whilst we have not exactly set the world alight we have fielded some strong sides, not least around the seventies and eighties, and many of those ex-players will be watching today. They, plus those before and after, should feel proud to have contributed to a day that is by far the greatest achievement in the history of the club, a fact that is all the more satisfying as the vast majority of the current first and, indeed, second team have emerged from our buoyant mini and junior section of the club.

Finally, the club emblem is the Arctic Tern which was not chosen by accident …….this particular species of bird is noted for its non-stop flight around the world.…..we at Hoylake liken this to our endeavour to play non-stop running rugby!!

In actual fact we can confirm that this is a complete and utter load of b*ll*cks!! put about by one of our elder bretheren….. you may spot him today! ….. The Arctic Tern was in fact selected for its sleek and silthlike appearance..... and lets be really honest here, a fit bird always looks good on a man's chest, Oh yes !!!

On a more serious note, should we be fortunate enough to achieve today's objective tickets for Twickenham will be restricted to two per person after the first 70,000 have been allocated!
